Commission welcomes the integration of the revised Code of conduct on countering illegal hate speech online into the Digital Services Act

The European Commission and the European Board for Digital Services have integrated the revised ‘Code of conduct on countering illegal hate speech online +’ into the framework of the Digital Services Act (DSA). This enhanced Code builds on the 2016 version and is signed by major online platforms. It aims to strengthen how these platforms handle illegal hate speech, enhancing compliance with the DSA through commitments such as quicker review processes, transparency, and multi-stakeholder cooperation. The Code’s adherence will be monitored through annual independent audits under the DSA, contributing to platform transparency and accountability.

Commission unveils action plan to protect the health sector from cyberattacks

The European Commission has introduced an EU action plan to improve cybersecurity in healthcare. This initiative aims to fortify hospitals and healthcare providers against cyber threats by enhancing threat detection and response capabilities. It includes the creation of a pan-European Cybersecurity Support Centre to provide tailored cybersecurity support. The plan prioritizes prevention, threat detection, rapid response to cyberattacks, and deterrence of cyber threats, incorporating comprehensive EU cybersecurity measures. The plan also encourages Member State cooperation and public consultation to refine actions and ensure effective implementation.

European Health Data Space: Council adopts new regulation improving cross-border access to EU health data

The Council of the EU has adopted the European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation to enhance individuals’ access to their electronic health data across the EU and facilitate its reuse for research. This regulation aims to simplify the cross-border exchange of health data, ensuring interoperability and greater control for individuals over their data. It establishes a digital health authority in each EU country to implement these provisions. The regulation will be signed into force soon, marking a significant advancement in the digital transformation of healthcare in Europe.
