Speeding up the digitalisation and AI uptake of European businesses

The European Commission’s AI Continent Action Plan, launched on 9 April, aims to make the EU a global leader in AI by boosting infrastructure, data access, skills, and sector-wide AI adoption. A central element is the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs), which help companies and public bodies adopt AI, offering services like training and test-before-invest. By late 2025, these hubs will evolve into AI Experience Centres, deepening support for sector-specific AI use while continuing to strengthen digital maturity and workforce skills across Europe.

European Commission launches AI Continent Action Plan to boost EU’s global leadership in artificial intelligence

The AI Continent Action Plan, launched by the European Commission, sets out an ambitious strategy to make Europe a global leader in artificial intelligence. It focuses on five pillars: scaling up infrastructure with AI Factories and new AI Gigafactories, boosting private investment through the InvestAI initiative, expanding data capacity and quality with Data Labs and a Data Union Strategy, accelerating adoption through the upcoming Apply AI Strategy, and growing talent via a new AI Skills Academy and legal pathways for skilled migration. The plan prioritises industrial AI use, strategic autonomy, and sustainable infrastructure, aiming to triple EU data centre capacity and foster a strong, innovative AI ecosystem.

Council moves one step closer to concluding the Digital Trade Agreement with Singapore

The EU and Singapore have concluded negotiations on a Digital Trade Agreement (DTA) that complements their 2019 Free Trade Agreement. The DTA includes binding commitments to enhance consumer protection, ensure secure data flows, and remove unjustified digital trade barriers, supporting the EU’s digital transformation and economic security. The agreement will be signed and ratified later, requiring European Parliament approval before final adoption.
