Commission publishes draft guidelines on protection of minors online under the Digital Services Act

The Commission has launched a public consultation on draft guidelines to protect minors online under the Digital Services Act (DSA), aiming to improve safety, privacy, and well-being for children on digital platforms. The guidelines propose measures such as default privacy settings, child-safe content moderation, and age verification, and will apply to all platforms accessible to minors (excluding micro and small enterprises). Public feedback is open until 10 June 2025, with final adoption planned before summer 2025.

EU launches a European vulnerability database to boost its digital security

The European Commission has launched the European Vulnerability Database (EUVD), managed by ENISA, to boost cybersecurity across the EU. The EUVD supports compliance with the NIS2 Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act by centralizing vulnerability data for digital products and services. It enhances situational awareness, helping both public and private stakeholders manage cyber risks more effectively and autonomously.

New approach to VAT for e-commerce imports to simplify trade and compliance

EU finance ministers have agreed on new VAT rules to improve the Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS), simplifying VAT procedures for e-commerce imports and encouraging wider use of the system. The update aims to reduce burdens for importers, ensure consistent VAT collection on goods up to €150, and fight VAT fraud. While IOSS remains voluntary, non-participating suppliers risk complex VAT registrations, making IOSS a key tool for efficient and compliant cross-border trade.
