Dr. Mateja Rek
Simona Tiribelli is currently a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Ethics at the University of Macerata, within the Department of Political Sciences, Communication, and International Relations. She also holds the National Scientific Habilitation (ASN 2023) as an Associate Professor in Ethics, reflecting her academic recognition in the field.
In parallel, she serves as Director for AI and Technology Ethics at the Institute for Technology and Global Health of the PathCheck Foundation, a spin-off of the MIT Media Lab focused on the intersection of technology and global health. She has also been a Visiting Scholar in AI Ethics for Global Public Health at New York University, collaborating with both the NYU School for Global Public Health and the NYU Center for Bioethics.
She is the Principal Investigator at the University of Macerata for the PRIN project Trustworthy Hybrid Quantum-Classical Artificial Intelligence for Medical Image Analysis (ThAI-MIA), funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. Additionally, she is a key member of the Jean Monnet Chair “Ethics for Inclusive Digital Europe”, funded by the European Commission, and contributes to the Horizon 2020 project REINITIALISE, which focuses on preserving fundamental rights in the use of digital technologies for e-health services.
She is also a senior member of the LUISS Quantum and AI Lab at Università Luiss Guido Carli, and serves as Associate Editor for AI Ethics and member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Responsible Technology (Elsevier, class A ANVUR). Alongside this, she regularly reviews for leading journals in AI and Ethics, including Philosophy & Technology, AI & Society, and TOPOI.
